The Garmin Forerunner 620 comes equipped with advanced features like the recovery advisor, race predictor and VO₂ max estimate to help you train smarter and achieve new race goals. The Garmin Forerunner 620 comes with a built-in accelerometer, which will track the distance for indoor running.
The Garmin Forerunner 620 can estimate your VO₂ max, which is a indicator of your athletic capability. VO₂ max is basically a rate that measures just how much oxygen you can take in during a workout. The Garmin Forerunner 620 can estimate a runner’s VO2 max with data extracted from the heart rate monitor. The watch takes into account running speed, heart rate beats per minute, and heart rate variability to estimate a runner’s VO2 max. There is a colour gauge on the watch to let you compare your VO₂ max data with other runners data of your gender and age group. Using that VO2 max estimate, the watch predicts potential race times for a range of distances.
The Race Predictor predicts your finish time for a given race distance based on your current VO2 max estimate.

Rest Day or Run Day
Thanks to the Heart Rate Monitor (HRM), when paired with the Garmin Forerunner 620 it learns your physiology via the heart rate data, looks at your effort level and suggests time off before you can start your next workout. The colour coding on the Garmin Forerunner 620 makes it easy to interpret; green means you are ready to run and red means you should consider resting. The suggested recovery time varies from 6 to 96 hours.
GPS Running Watch
The Garmin Forerunner 620 is the first GPS running watch that provides feedback on your running form by reporting multiple metrics. It reports your cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time when used along with the HRM-Run monitor. The HRM-Run comes equipped with an accelerometer, which calculates your torso movement as you run.
Cadence when used with the HRM-Run records your number of steps per minute (right and left combined). The previous devices used a foot pod to measure the foot strike rate.
When used with HRM-Run, vertical oscillation shows the degree of 'bounce' in your running motion which is measured in centimeters from a fixed point on your body (sensor on the chest mounted HRM-Run monitor).
When used with HRM-Run, the Garmin Forerunner 620 measures how much time, during the running motion, your foot is on the ground rather than in flight which is measured in milliseconds.
Garmin Connect lets you send data to the online community, wirelessly. All you need is a Garmin Connect Mobile app on your smartphone to transfer your data. It also lets you set up one or more Wi-Fi hot spots, like your home and office networks, and the Garmin Forerunner 620 will automatically sync with Garmin Connect when in range. The Garmin Connect Mmobile App lets you post updates on your social media sites. The Garmin Forerunner 620 comes equipped with the LiveTrack feature which will allows your friends to see your stats by pairing your smartphone with your Garmin Forerunner 620.
